Anderson Packaging has been awarded a 2004 AmeriStar award from the Institute of Packaging Professionals for the TAP Pharmaceuticals NapraPAC™ package. The 15th Annual AmeriStar Awards Ceremony will be held on November 9th at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago, highlighting the PMMI PackExpo International Trade Exposition. The package design will also be featured in PackExpo’s Showcase of Packaging Innovations ™ during the weeklong show.

The NapraPAC™ package, featuring the MeadWestvaco Dosepak design, is a combination therapy package targeted for the over 20 million Americans who suffer from either Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis and are at risk for gastric ulcers. Consumers receive a 7-day dosing regiment with the package instructing users to take one anti-inflammatory tablet and one proton pump inhibitor capsule in the morning, followed by one anti-inflammatory tablet in the evening. Graphics highlight dosing both by day and by the time period at which users are to take the indicated medication.

In addition to its performance as a patient compliant package, the NapraPAC™ package achieved an F=1 rating in the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Child Resistance testing protocol. The design also factors in the particular needs of arthritic consumers and has achieved the CPSC designation of Senior Friendly.

Package graphics provide clear and concise instructions for users to access the product. Simply pressing the button highlighted by a large circle #1 and pulling on the tab highlighted with a #2 allows access to the product contained inside. Once open, users push their medication through the foil and paper backing. The package is designed to be convenient for traveling with a week’s worth of medication, while at the same time easily accounting for the morning and night medication compliance on a daily basis.
