Anderson Packaging has been informed that two of the compliance packages it has recently launched have been awarded "Winner" and "Second Runner-up" in the Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council's Compliance Package of the Year Competition. Formal announcement and presentation of the awards took place on May 4-5 at the HCPC's Annual National Symposium on Patient Compliance. The winner of the competition was the Actonel Once-a-Week Dosepak?, a prescription medication marketed collaboratively by Aventis and Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals to prevent and treat postmenopausal osteoporosis. Commercialization of Actonel Once-a-Week Dosepak? is a joint effort between Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, MeadWestvaco Healthcare Packaging and Anderson Packaging Incorporated.

The innovative Dosepak package allows patients easy access to their medication while meeting the highest Consumer Product Safety Commission protocol requirements for child resistance packaging. The Actonel Once-a-Week Dosepak? features concise graphics and directions to aid patients to follow through their medical regiment easily. The Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council is a not-for-profit trade association whose mission is to promote the many benefits of unit dose blister and strip packaging including its superior ability to improve patient compliance, as well as tamper evidence, efficacy protection, and prevention of accidental poisonings, improve safety and deterrence of counterfeiting. Pharmaceutical noncompliance is a serious national problem as nearly 50 percent of all medications prescribed are taken incorrectly, resulting in a myriad of complications including prolonged illness, unnecessary hospital visits and premature death.
